TRANSITION PERIOD

The first postage stamps Type His Majesty King Baudouin, Type Marchand, also called Baudouin with spectacles, were used for the first time on september 10th 1953. This serie ended march 1966 with the stamp value of 12 fr. Once this serie ended, a new one was created.

 

COIN 10 Fr AND PERSONAL KINGS MEDARL

It was the National Bank who asked Harry Alström to make a project for a new coin with a 10 fr value. After a visit to the Royal Palast he realised a blamed model. Accepted by the National Bank a new 10 fr coin was created.

 

The new coin was made of pure nickel weighing 8 gram and a diameter of 27 mm (front side shows the Belgian national armorial. The coin saw daylight in 1969, was withdrawn with no longer value september 1985.

   

 

PROJECT OF THE POSTAGE STAMP

King Baudouin was delighted to the project of the new 10 fr coin and professor Alström was also asked to make a project for a new postage stamp with the same effigy and replacing the current postage stamp type Marchand. The new design was accepted by the Postage Regie with the exception of the text BELGIË- BELGIQUE.

1° Press Wifag: Utility ink together with oxidation drying expedients

2° Press Goegel: Utility Heat Set Ink drying  influented by warmth, without any drying components

3° In order to rationalise the printing process, both presses use heat Set Ink

It was on september 7th that the first stamp (nr 1543) saw daylight. This stamp, on the occasion of the 40th birthday of King Boudewijn I, became the first stamp of a current issue.

Black eyed ministrial example and Adry obliterated@ by the Regie der Posterijen.

First known date of impression of the current issue (on the Wifag press) is 29.III.71 and the latest one is 5.XII.83

Duration  was also 12 years

              

Thirty-four stamps were issued, fourteen for public services and four for military service.

Together with eigt coiled stamps, the total was sixty Elstrøm stamps
